Read Recently — January 2016 — . . . And the Rest

American Fascists: the Christian Right and the war on America by Chris Hedges

So, yeah. I’m certain this is a re-read, but I can’t find any record of it before. Hedges opens by quoting a brief article by Umberto Eco, “Eternal Fascim: fourteen ways of looking at a Blackshirt”. He then spends the rest of the book arguing that the American Christian Right-wing is heading in a fascist direction. I think he’s convincing but then, as a left-wing atheist Canadian, I probably would. Timely reading, either way.

Recommended.

The Lord of Castle Black: book two of the Viscount of Adrilankha by Steven Brust

Another re-read, but from so long ago no record of it exists in my files. The titular lord is, of course, Morrolan e’Drien, which we know because in the future he will have become the friend of Vlad Taltos and will have the castle in question. Right now, all he has is a small temple, and through allying himself with Zerika and the Empire against Kana he soon finds himself under siege. However, with the help of Sethra Lavode and Khaavren, who has returned himself to fighting trim and gone seeking adventure anew, the siege is quickly broken and Zerika moves her court to Adrilankha. But the story is not over yet . . .

Recommended, but only if you have read and enjoyed the rest of the series.
